Definition of

Caravan

Vehicle

A caravan is a vehicle with furniture and various amenities inside.

A caravan is a group of individuals or animals that travel or move one after another , according to the first meaning of the concept mentioned by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). The Persian term kārvān derived from the French caravane , which came to be our language with the aforementioned form.

For example: “Tomorrow a caravan will take place to protest the closure of the cultural center” , “We arrived late because a caravan of deer crossed the road” , “The American president was escorted by a caravan of security vehicles” .

The caravan as a succession of vehicles

Caravan is also the name given to the succession of vehicles that move slowly and even stop at times due to traffic congestion.

“This caravan is not moving any further! "I don't know what time we will arrive at our destination.", “The motorcyclist tried to leave the caravan and was hit by a truck that was moving in the opposite direction.” y “They should widen this road: endless caravans always form” son expresiones que muestran este uso.

Trailer

The caravan or motor home can be detached from the car.

A type of vehicle

A vehicle that, inside, has furniture and amenities to live in, is also called a caravan. The caravans do not have their own mobility, but are towed by a car.

A caravan is generally used as temporary housing during a trip. There are people who prefer to travel in a caravan and not sleep in a hotel, to name one possibility.

Caravans, depending on the geographic region, may be called motor homes , mobile homes , trailers , campers , or wagons . The vehicle that integrates a car with a caravan is called a motorhome or motorhome : it is a caravan with the capacity to travel, without the need for a trailer.

Why travel in a caravan

More and more people are making the decision to travel in a caravan because they consider that it brings with it a series of benefits:

  • Significant savings are achieved in accommodation because it will not be necessary to rent a hotel or hostel room, since the vehicle has a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.
  • In the same way, it allows savings in terms of meals, since as the caravans have a kitchen and refrigerator (ice cream maker), different dishes can be prepared in them without having to go to a bar, cafeteria or restaurant.
  • It has the advantage that, when you arrive at your destination, you can unhook yourself from the car and use it to discover the most interesting corners of the town or city.

a movie

It should be noted that there is an emblematic film from the 50s that has the word in question in its title. We are referring to “Caravan of Women” , which was released in 1951 and was directed by William A. Wellman .
