water faucet

Canilla can be a synonym for "tap"

Canilla is a term that comes from the Latin word cannella , diminutive of canna (which translates as "cane" ). The concept has various uses according to the context .

The faucet

In several Latin American countries, the tap is called canilla: that is, the key that is placed at the mouth of a pipe to allow or deny the passage of water. If the faucet is closed, the water does not come out; On the contrary, when you open the faucet, the liquid begins to flow.

There are always faucets in the kitchen sink and in the bathroom sinks in the homes. The faucet has a threaded stem and a rubber, leather or rubber washer that serve to open or close the conduit through which the water reaches the outlet pipe.

The most economical part is also the one that wears out most frequently and can cause different problems: the aforementioned flexible washer, which is known as a valve or leather . This is especially true for faucets that are opened and closed by turning a crank, because some people use too much force. As the valve wears out, it loses effectiveness in its main function: absolutely stopping the flow of water.

Thus arises the need to replace the valve, which is an easy task for someone with experience but can present difficulties for someone who has never done it. The problem with missing faucet maintenance is the waste of water , since with the washer worn out it is impossible to close the passage completely, and this has a negative impact on both the environment and the user's pocketbook.

Free bobbin

The expression "open tap" or "open bar" , finally, is used to refer to the service provided in certain establishments or social events, through which it is possible to drink without limits for a fixed price .

It is called a free tap because the way in which drinks are served in most cases is using a large dispenser that is activated by pressing a tap so that the liquid comes out through a spout. In any case, even if the service is offered by the staff, carrying jugs or bottles around the establishment to take care of refilling the glasses, the same expression is used.

Depending on the context, the meaning of free tap can be metaphorical. For example, if a person says to his or her child , “You've had a free tap for too long; "It's time for you to start taking care of yourself." The expression refers to the fact that the young person does not work to get their own money, but rather receives it "in an unlimited way" from their parents. This figurative meaning is quite common in everyday speech, with variations depending on the specific case.

shin leg

The shin is also a bone of the leg, the "tibia"

A bone or shin

The Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), in its dictionary, also indicates that each extensive bone of the arm or leg is called shin. This use usually appears with respect to the tibia . One of the most common problems with the shin is called tibial periostitis , which manifests itself as severe pain and occurs when this part of the body is subjected to too much stress, usually by running.

It is common that, in several regions, the idea of shin refers specifically to the shin or front sector of the leg . The shin, in this frame, extends between the ankle and the knee , developing on the opposite side of the calf. The shin guard is the accessory used in various sports to protect said area.
