Truck

Burden

A truck is a large vehicle that is usually used to transport cargo.

A truck is a motorized vehicle that has at least four wheels and is used to transport very heavy loads. Trucks are usually used to transport goods .

Before entering fully into the meaning of the term, it is necessary to proceed to know its etymological origin. In this case, we can establish that it derives from the French camion, which can be translated as “car” .

Most trucks have a cabin where the driver and his passenger travel and a large chassis equipped with some type of structure for transporting the load . Many times, on the rear axle, they have double sets of wheels.

Truck types

There are multiple types of trucks, whose characteristics vary depending on their load. The simplest trucks have a type of box where the objects they transport are stored. Others have a refrigerated box specially designed for the transportation of merchandise that requires cold, such as meat and other foods.

There are trucks with cages to transport live animals; with dump trucks to “dump” the load; with mixing machines ( concrete mixers ) to prepare concrete (also called concrete ); with cisterns to transport liquids; with trash compactor devices; and with cranes , among many others.

There are many other classifications that exist regarding trucks. One of the most used is the one based on the weight of the vehicle in question. Based on this aspect, there are the following types:

  • Light , weighing between 500 kilos and 2.5 tons.
  • Lightweight , weighing between 2.5 and 3.5 tons.
  • Semi-light , which are between 3.5 and 4.5 tons.
  • Medium , weighing between 4.5 and 5.5 tons.
  • Semi-heavy , whose weight is between 5.5 and 7.5 tons.
  • Heavy , which have a weight of between 7.5 and 9 tons.
  • Extra heavy , weighing between 9 and 11.5 tons.
  • There are also the megaheavyweights , ultraheavyweights and gigaheavyweights .

The engine

Trucks generally run on an internal combustion engine, fueled by gasoline or another fuel.

In any case, electric trucks also exist: their engines, which do not generate pollution, have the capacity to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy .

Tank

There are trucks that have a cistern or tank to transport liquids.

truck racing

Within the framework of motorsports and sporting events, truck races are held in some countries .

In these events, large vehicles compete against each other on different circuits.

a song

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of an important song in Spain that uses the word in question in its title. We are referring to “I want a truck,” which was a great success in the 1980s and is now an essential classic of country music.

The rock group Loquillo y los Trogloditas was the one who performed this song, which appeared for the first time in 1983 on the album “El rhythm del garage” and which later, in 1989 , was released as a single.
