Originating from the French word brisque , brisca is a term that refers to a game developed with the Spanish deck of cards . This is an entertainment similar to tute , where each player receives three cards at the beginning of the actions.
In the brisca, the cards have different values or points. The winner of the game is the player who, following the various steps and guidelines established in the regulations, manages to accumulate the highest score or score .
How to play brisca
The brisca is defined as a game of tricks . A trick , meanwhile, is a group of cards raised by someone who manages to win a hand.
To play brisca, cards from the Spanish deck are used. The usual thing is that two players or two pairs face each other (thus, four people in total playing); In these cases, 40 cards are used, since the 8 and 9 are excluded. Another possibility is for two teams of three players each to play, using the 48 cards in the deck in this mode.
At the beginning of the game, three cards are dealt per player and then one is turned over, which establishes the trump suit . In this way, the cards of that suit (called trumps ) have a higher value than the rest.
The game starts when the person who is the hand leaves a card on the table. Then, from left to right, the other players do the same. The trick is won by whoever threw the highest card of the trump suit or, if there is none, the highest value card of the leading suit. Upon winning the trick, the player collects all the cards played.
To continue the game, each of the players must pick up a card from the deck. The one who won the previous trick is the first to take a card and also the first to play a new one, repeating the formula detailed above. The game ends when the cards in one hand have been played and there are no more cards left to draw from the deck.
The score
The cards with the highest value or score are the aces (11 points each). Then follow the 3 (10 points), the kings (4 points), the knights (3 points) and the jacks (2 points). The other cards do not have points, although they serve to form tricks.
At the end of the game, each player must add up the points on their cards. The player or couple who accumulates the highest score wins. If there is a tie, the winner is the person with the highest number of cards.
Other types of brisca
It is important to keep in mind that the rules may vary according to the country or even the chosen modality. Therefore, it can be stated that there is no single game mode for brisca.
In some cases, the goal of the game is to achieve the lowest score. In other variants, a specific card must be “killed.” Depending on the version chosen, more or fewer cards may even be dealt than in the traditional brisca.
