From the French bobine , a coil is a cylinder of thread, cable or twine that is wound on a cardboard tube or other material. The continuous roll of paper used by rotary presses and the roll of thread or other component that exhibits a certain order is also known as a reel.
On the other hand, a coil or inductor is a passive component of the electrical circuit that includes an insulated wire, which is wound in the shape of a helix. This allows it to store energy in a magnetic field through a phenomenon known as self-induction.

All this without forgetting that it can be used within what is a differential switch, an electric or linear motor or two other fundamental devices within any automobile: the clutch and the brake.
