Notebook

A log can be a diary or notebook.

Log , from the French bitacle , is a type of cabinet used in maritime life. It is an instrument that is fixed to the deck, near the rudder and nautical needle and that facilitates navigation in unknown oceans.

In ancient times, this device used to include a notebook (the logbook ) where sailors recounted the development of their voyages to record everything that happened there and the way in which they had been able to solve the problems. This notebook was kept in the logbook, it was protected from storms and climatic events because it served as a reference book for the vicissitudes of the trip.

Over time , the notion of log became associated almost exclusively with that of logbook (for example: "The sighting of the island was narrated in detail in the captain's log" ) and spread to other areas.

The log as a diary

A log is, currently, a notebook or publication that allows you to keep a written record of various actions. Its organization is chronological , which makes it easier to review the noted contents. Scientists often develop logs during their research to explain the process and share their experiences with other specialists.

Blogs gained great fame from the development of weblogs or blogs , which are virtual blogs that are published on the Internet . Blogs collect information of all kinds and can be written by one or more authors. This type of blog usually accepts reader participation through comments and opinions.

The fotolog or flog , on the other hand, is a blog that is based on the publication of images and short comments.

Project notebook

The concept can also be linked to certain work or research projects and represents a notebook where the progress and results of a certain study or work are reported; It includes hypotheses, observations, ideas, data, and obstacles that may arise during the research. It is mainly used for school projects, subject planning and educational content.

Weblog

Blogs are digital logs.

It is organized chronologically , in such a way that as progress is made in the project, the results are captured in the notebook in order to have a clear follow-up of all the work carried out. In a log of this type, all the conditions under which the project has been developed must be recorded.

As with legal records, pages cannot be torn off; If a writing error or whatever is made, a call must be made with a typo explaining it. This is done in this way because it is considered that what at one moment may be considered wrong in the future can serve to solve the same or another problem.

Parts of a log as an element of organization

A log is made up of several parts, they are:

* Cover page (the first page that includes the name of the school and the information of said institution, the name of the project and the information of those who participate in it);

* table of Contents (se presenta un índice con las diversas actividades que se encontrarán incluidas en la bitácora; el mismo se va completando a medida que se avanza en el proyecto por lo cual deben dejarse varias hojas en blanco luego de la portada);

* Procedures (cada miembro del equipo va plasmando sus ideas y resultados de forma libre de modo que todos puedan consultar lo expuesto o investigado por otros);

* Literature (se incluyen las referencias de aquel contenido que haya ayudado a los miembros del equipo en la investigación y que ayuden a esclarecer ciertas partes de lo incluido en la bitácora).
