Bay

Brazil

A bay is a geographical feature characterized by the entry of the sea into the coast.

A bay is an inlet to the sea on the coast that has a considerable extension. It is a geographical feature with characteristics similar to the gulf , which is a portion of sea between two capes.

Gulfs are large bays, while narrower bays are called fjords . The notion of bay appears as the opposite of peninsula or cape , which are portions of land that extend into the water.

A bay is an inlet of water surrounded by land except for an opening . It has the shape of a concavity on the coastline, which is created by the movement of the sea. Bays have great economic and social importance since, due to their natural characteristics, they usually allow the construction of ports and the reception of vessels.

Examples of bay

There are many important bays throughout the world . This would be the case, for example, of the well-known Bay of Cadiz , located in Andalusia (Spain). One of the main distinguishing features of this bay is the fact that it has the privilege of being the closest natural port to the Strait of Gibraltar.

However, in addition to all this, it is also worth highlighting that within the aforementioned bay there are natural areas of great environmental value such as Playa de la Cachucha, Trocadero Island and the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park. The latter is an enclave that covers more than 10,000 hectares and has been declared a SPA (Special Protection Area for Birds).

Another of the most important bays in the world is the one in Cuba, called the Bay of Pigs . More than 160 kilometers south of Havana is the bay that stands out for its spectacular beaches with mangroves, coral reefs and marshy areas.

This natural enclave is also known in the historical sphere. In 1961, it was through it that the CIA, with trained troops, tried to enter Cuba with the clear objective of overthrowing the political regime imposed there. However, it failed due to the actions carried out by the Revolutionary Armed Forces and this brought with it the death of hundreds of men.

Spain

The Bay of Cadiz has great relevance.

Names of cities

On the other hand, Bahia is a state in Brazil with more than 13 million inhabitants. Its capital is Salvador de Bahia , an important tourist center thanks to its colonial buildings, its beaches and its carnival.

Bahia stands out for the influence of African culture, as it is the Brazilian state with the highest relative number of blacks and mulattoes.

It is worth noting that Bahía Blanca is a port city located in the south of the province of Buenos Aires ( Argentina ) with about 300,000 inhabitants. The most popular sport in Bahía Blanca is basketball : several of the most important players in the history of Argentina , such as Emanuel Ginóbili , are natives of the city.
