Pole

European Union

The rod that allows a flag to be held in the air is called a flagpole.

Asta is a term with more than a dozen meanings in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). The first meaning mentioned refers to the rod that allows a flag to be suspended, making it flutter in the air.

Before moving forward with the meaning of the term, it is important to analyze its etymological origin. In this case, we have to explain that it derives from the Latin hasta , which is the term that was used to refer to a spear or any object that had this appearance.

flagpoles

The flagpoles have different sizes and have a pulley system that makes it possible to lower and raise the flag (that is, lower and raise it as desired). For example: “The young man began to kick the flagpole with the intention of knocking down the flag,” “When the bell rings, you must approach the flagpole and raise the flag,” “The national emblem flies at half-mast as a sign of mourning.”

The expression “at half mast” refers to what happens when the flag is left in the middle of the mast, and not at the top, in the sense of mourning. If a personality from a certain country dies, the national government can declare days of mourning and order flags to fly at half-mast.

Deer

The horns of deer, elk, deer and other animals are called antlers.

The horns

The horns of hoofed animals that belong to the family Cervidae are also called antlers. Deer , deer , elk and reindeer have these bony extensions that are different from the horns of bovids.

While antlers develop and shed according to the species ' reproductive cycle, traditional horns never shed from the animal and grow steadily.

Antler wounds in bullfighting

It should be noted that within the world of bullfighting the word antler is fundamental. And it is used to refer to the horns of bulls. Hence, it is also common to speak of a bull horn wound to name the injuries and damage that the animal can cause when goring the bullfighter.

Fucks like that are really important; That is to say, they are very serious so the bullfighter is required to be attended to quickly. And only in this way can it be prevented from suffering serious blood loss or even death.

That is why it is common for bullrings to have infirmaries where doctors can act immediately, plugging the wounds, stitching them and even having to proceed to emergency surgery. Among the best-known bull horn injuries is, for example, the one suffered by the Spanish bullfighter Paquirri in 1984 , which would end his life.

If this goring or catch is considered to be light or small in size, it is said that the bullfighter has received a kick .

Other uses of the term

A weapon used by the Romans in ancient times and the different portions of the gray matter found in the spinal cord are also mentioned as antlers.

The same can be said about the various parts of a boat , as stated by the RAE .
