Blister

Sun

Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause burns that cause blisters to appear.

A blister is an inflammation that occurs in a sector of the epidermis when fluids accumulate, according to the first meaning of the term mentioned by the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). The concept, coming from the Latin word ampulla, has several uses.

The skin lesion that is generated as a defense method developed by the body is called a blister. It is a reaction that the body makes to friction or a burn , with the purpose of restoring the skin.

Blisters form from the accumulation of lymphatic fluid and other fluids. As the skin widens, the wound is protected. Typically, blisters do not require medical treatment since they heal naturally when the fluids are reabsorbed by the body and the area dries out.

Types of blister

We can emphasize that there are several types of blister.

Thus, based on where it is located, it is called a subcutaneous blister , which is below the dermis; the subcorneal ampulla , which is located under the stratum corneum; or the intraepidermal blister , which is located in the dermis.

Precautions

When a blister appears on the skin, the ideal is to cover it with a dressing so that it does not break and continues to fulfill its protective function of the wound that caused it to appear. When, due to its location, the blister must burst, it is recommended to use a sterile needle to puncture it and then cover the area with a dressing so that an infection does not occur.

In addition to what is indicated, another series of recommendations must be followed regarding blisters:

  • You have to observe them daily to see how they are evolving. And if you notice that they are getting worse, you will have to go to the doctor.
  • Sometimes it is recommended to apply cold to the blisters because it is considered to be able to relieve the discomfort they cause. This should be done using ice wrapped in a cloth, without placing it directly on these injuries because it could worsen their condition.
Laboratory

A type of container is called an ampoule.

Causes of blisters

It must also be established that a blister can occur due to a burn from excessive sunbathing or even due to footwear . If the shoes or sneakers are not in good condition, when they have some type of very hard seam or when they continually rub against an area intensely, they can cause this type of injury.

Chickenpox and dermatitis are other variables that can lead to the appearance of blisters on the body.

A type of container

Ampoule, on the other hand, is the name given to a container made of crystal, bronze, clay or glass. In ancient times, ampoules were used for storing perfumes.

Today the idea of an ampoule is associated with the funnel that, in a laboratory , is used to separate two liquids based on their different densities and through decantation.
