In some regions, a bailiff is an officer of justice.

A bailiff is a judicial officer who is responsible for executing those instructions ordered by a court, according to the first meaning of the concept mentioned by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). The classical Arabic term wazīr derived from the Hispanic Arabic alwazír and then came to Spanish as bailiff .

The notion is used with reference to various positions linked to security and laws , especially existing in Spanish territory throughout history. In this framework, the official of the Court of the Kingdom of Castile who carried out judicial and police functions was called the king's chief bailiff .

The senior bailiff of the Court , on the other hand, was an honorary position granted by the courts . Other types of bailiffs were the bailiff of the Inquisition , the judicial bailiff , the municipal bailiff , and the permanent bailiff .

The concept in bullfighting

Sheriff, furthermore, is the individual who, in a bullfight , is dedicated to disseminating and carrying out the orders issued by the president. Also called sheriffillos , they always appear in pairs and on horseback, traveling around the ring to clear the place.

In ancient times, this route was very important so that there were no curious people in the center of the square and thus the bullfight could be carried out without risk to the public .

Aguacil as an animal

In some South American countries , the idea of sheriff is used as a synonym for dragonfly . A marshal, in this sense, is an insect with two pairs of wings and short antennae.

Understood as a synonym for dragonfly , the bailiff belongs to the infraorder of Anisoptera, one of the two that are recognized from the suborder Epiprocta. These are paleopterous insects , meaning they are not capable of folding their wings over their abdomen. They have large, compound eyes (many receptive units are grouped together and they do not have a central lens, which is why they cannot see at high resolutions). The sheriff's diet consists mainly of small insects, among which are mosquitoes, bees, flies, moths and butterflies.

Alguacil, finally, is also the name of a spider that is characterized by having spots on its body.
