Wire

coiled wire

Wire has been manufactured for more than 2000 years

A wire is a metallic thread that is produced by drawing . The action of drawing, meanwhile, consists of passing a metal through a die to reduce it to wire.

Overview

Wires are obtained by drawing metals or alloys . The possibility of production depends on the ductility of the material: that is, the property that allows them, when acted upon by a force , to undergo mechanical deformation in a sustainable manner without breaking.

It is common for wire to be made from aluminum , copper , iron or silver . The material chosen, as well as the diameter of the thread, depend on the use that will be given to the wire.

The wires can be wound into coils . In this way it is easier to

storage and transfer.

History

It is important to note that wire is a very old product, since it has been manufactured for several centuries, and even more than two millennia. These data can be verified thanks to certain archaeological excavations in which brass wire was found, which according to experts was possibly obtained by spinning . This is the name of a metal plate with many holes of different diameters through which the metal bars are passed to turn them into wire, starting with the widest hole and ending with the desired thickness .

Regarding the production process, it has gone through different changes. Until the middle of the 14th century , for example, metal sheets were beaten to achieve the desired thickness. These sheets were then cut into thin strips that were hit with a hammer to obtain the final result. Over time, instruments known as spinnerets began to be used.

Classes and uses

Wires are often used to build fences (fences that delimit or enclose a piece of land). In this framework, it is common to use barbed wire , which has points every so often to make passage even more difficult. Using wire, springs , meshes and cables are also produced, for example.

A Mexican recipe

In Mexico , on the other hand, a food that is cooked on a skewer is called wire. Pieces of meat, onions and peppers are inserted into this wire rod, ingredients that are roasted or cooked in a saucepan. Wires are frequently served alongside tortillas .

Let's see the recipe in detail, starting with the ingredients necessary to prepare it: I cook in slices, beef in fillets, onion, red pepper, green pepper, Oaxaca cheese in strands, corn or flour tortillas, hot sauce, lemon, salt and pepper . If we do not have this type of cheese, it can be replaced with another, as long as it is easy to melt. Homemade tortillas are preferred over purchased ones, but both are fine. The same applies to hot sauce.

Now we can start the process. We chop the beef, bacon, peppers and onion into small square pieces, and place them in different containers for later use . We put a frying pan on the heat and when it heats up we add the bacon, which we leave until it browns. We remove it, along with much of the fat that has been released, but we keep a little to cook the beef, which we will add later.

We put the bacon back with the meat to add salt and pepper to taste. We also add the pepper and onion, and leave everything until the latter two are crispy and the liquid released by all the ingredients has evaporated. It's time to lower the temperature of the heat, add the cheese, cover the pan and wait for it to melt. The last step to cook Mexican wire is to serve the mixture on previously heated tortillas, accompanied by the sauce and lemon.
