Needle

The Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), in its dictionary, recognizes more than thirty meanings of the term needle , which comes from the Latin language. The first meaning refers to a small, elongated element that ends in a point and that, thanks to having a hole through which a thread can be passed, is used for knitting, embroidering or sewing .

NeedleFor example: “Today grandma taught me how to thread a needle” , “Don't walk barefoot because today I was sewing and I dropped a needle that I couldn't find” , “Do you have a needle and some thread? “I need to sew a button on my shirt.”

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of what is known as the Golden Needle Awards. These are two:

-Firstly, at the Cádiz Carnival and since 1991, this award is given to the participating group that surprises and captivates with its attire.

-Secondly, the Golden Needle is a recognition that is awarded within the fashion sector in Spain. It was created in 2007 by the Ministry of Culture and its objective is to praise and extol the career and work of a creator in the world of design.

Certain hands and spikes are also called needles. That is the case with the hands of the clock : “When the hands point to twelve o'clock, the registration period will close.”

Furthermore, we cannot forget the needle that becomes a fundamental part of any record player. Specifically, it is responsible for placing itself on the record so that it starts playing.

The hollow tube used attached to a syringe to inject or withdraw liquids from a body is called a needle. Typically made of stainless steel, these needles (known as hypodermic needles ) are used to apply drugs or take blood samples from the body. To avoid the spread of diseases, needles have to be disposable: they are only used once and then discarded.

Families of fish and birds and several species of plants are also called needles. In Spain , on the other hand, veal needle is a gastronomic preparation that uses minced beef in a dough made with puff pastry. Continuing with feeding, the ribs of the front quarter of cattle are known as needles.

In recent times this type of meat, needle meat, has experienced great demand and is increasingly praised. That's because it is very juicy and even quite tender. In the same way, we cannot ignore the fact that it is considered great both for stewing and even for preparing it fried or grilled.

In this case, we can emphasize that there are many types of needles that exist, such as the following:

-The saddlebags, which are used to make saddles.

-The embroidery ones.

-The shoemaker's.

-Weaving ones, which have different thickness and diameter in each country.

-The packing ones.
