Definition of

Agency

Company

An agency is a company that provides services and usually manages matters for its clients and not itself.

Agency is the office , office or office of the agent (the person who has the power to act, who acts with the power of another or who is an intermediary between a seller and a buyer). The concept comes from the Latin agentĭa which, in turn, has its origin in agens ( "he who does" ).

An agency is a company that is dedicated to providing services and that, generally, manages matters that are not its own . An advertising agency , for example, is the company that develops and implements advertising for an advertiser (i.e., their client). This type of firm provides marketing and communication advice and has a team of creatives that invents the campaigns and slogans.

Different types of agencies

Travel agencies , on the other hand, act as intermediaries between tourism service providers (hotels, airlines, etc.) and travelers. These agencies usually operate as wholesalers (that is, they contract wholesale services at low prices and then resell them to their clients).

However, we cannot forget the communication agencies either. Specifically, these are companies whose clear objective is to develop different strategies so that their clients can improve the image they have, so that they are much better known and, therefore, can grow in results.

As a general rule, among the services offered by these aforementioned agencies are marketing, press office, consulting, internal communication and also cultural transformation.

Tourism

A travel agency functions as a link between tourism providers and travelers.

Information service

But there is still more. There are also news agencies that, as their name indicates, aim to inform and publicize all types of relevant events that take place in a country in economic, social, political, cultural or sports matters, among others.

In Spain, one of the most important agencies of this type is EFE , which was founded in the 1930s and has since managed to become a true reference at the media level. Of an international nature, it is the same one that offers multimedia information and has a staff of more than three thousand professionals, from different countries, in order to always be up to the minute about everything that is happening on the planet.

Likewise, in the rest of the world there are also other very significant and important news agencies, such as the French AFP (Agence France Presse), the German DPA (Deutsche Presse Agentur) or the British Reuters .

modeling agency

A modeling agency is the company that is dedicated to representing models (whether men, women, children or animals).

It is common for these agencies to have personnel dedicated to searching for potential models (a practice known as scouting).

Other uses of the concept

Another use of the term refers to the delegation or subordinate branch of a company : “I am interested in buying a new car: tomorrow I am going to visit the Ford agency that is near my house.”

Agency, finally, is a State organization that manages a public service.
