A scandalous affair between leaders is a "political affair"
Affaire is a term from the French language that is also used in our language to refer to a matter that, due to its characteristics, is controversial, indecorous or even illegal . An affair, therefore, becomes a scandal or the axis of a conflict when it transcends.

In the first example we see that a singer is in the middle of a lawsuit against his record company, a situation that is clearly not pleasant for either party. Although we could use the previously proposed synonym, affaire , to describe it, it lacks the strength and negative connotation that affaire gives us.
Regarding the Odebrecht affair, it was a well-known case of corruption that spanned more than three decades and involved the construction company of the same name, located in Brazil, which carried out illicit acts in its international relations to benefit economically and politically.
As expected, no one wants to be involved in a political affair, regardless of whether they are guilty. Such is the case of the deputy who does everything possible to get out of the smuggling category, stating that he is being accused unfairly to tarnish his name.
Political affair
Many times the concept is used with reference to a political problem , especially of an international nature . It is known as the Ben Barka affair , to mention one case, what happened to the Moroccan opposition political leader Mehdi Ben Barka in 1965 . While in Paris , Ben Barka was kidnapped and later murdered. The incident was attributed to the Moroccan secret services with the support of the French government.

Any temporary and inconspicuous love relationship is an affair.
It is important to note that this meaning that we give to the term affair in our language is not exclusive to heterosexual relationships, but anyone can have a love affair of this type. Despite this, due to the machismo always present in society, it is usually associated with an extramarital relationship on the part of a man. This not only ignores all other possible combinations, but places women in two negative roles: the one who deceives and the one who is deceived.
As we mentioned above, an affair is not always clandestine, that is, it is not a condition for someone to be deceived by their partner. However, it is true that this type of relationship is characterized by being kept secret or not being disclosed much. In fact, it is not so common to declare an affair in the first person but rather to rumor about one that a third person is having: "Have you heard that Mauri is having an affair with the upstairs neighbor?" .
